Welcome to My Blog!

I have been in the teaching profession since 2000 because my students have made it a pleasure and privilege to come to work each day.  I taught my first year at a private school, then three years at a public school, and now my home for quite some time has been at charter school in the North Los Angeles area.  I have only taught in urban neighborhoods with the majority of my students being bilingual in Spanish and English.

Out of my years of teaching ten of them have been in third grade and continue to be so.  This is truly my favorite age group.  I taught one year in second grade and one year in fourth, early on, so it really has been a blessing to know where my students came from and where they are headed-towards in terms of grade level content.  I’ve also had the wonderful experience of serving as a BTSA mentor to new teachers whose talent and ideas inspired me, breathing new life into my classroom.  As I work on my MAT in Language Arts K-12 at SDSU and tackle the Common Core State Standards it brings to my next adventure.

I have always been interested in using technology to better teach and reach my students, but I also love to share! This blog is a dream come true because I can combine both loves.  I will be sharing teaching tools and resources for literacy, math, science and social studies.  I also have training in the use of the Reading and Writing Workshop from Columbia’s Teacher College and our school has seen great gains using this method over the past five years. In terms of classroom management I have a over a decade of experience with Whole Brain Teaching techniques that have helped me be successful in growing student achievement and motivation. This means more stuff to share and plenty of blog material! I hope you enjoy what’s to come!
